Sturridge signs new Liverpool deal

Daniel Sturridge has put pen to paper on a new contract at Liverpool, with the club describing it as a “long-term deal”.
The striker arrived at Anfield in January, 2013, after struggling to make an impact at Chelsea and formed a
potent partnership with Luis Suarez, scoring 10 goals in 14 Premier League games before the season’s end.
Another 24 goals in all competition’s followed last term as Liverpool mounted their first serious title challenge in five years, only to miss out to Manchester City come the end of the campaign.
“It feels great. It’s a big, big day in my life to commit to this club and to give the club my best years, which are ahead of me,” he told the club’s official website.
“I am thankful for the opportunity and that is the reason I committed my future. Everyone has been great with me, from the fans to the staff to the players, so it was an easy decision. I’m happy with how everything is going.”
Sturridge has scored just once this season, before an injury while on international duty sidelined him for the next four weeks, and is keen to get back to winning ways with Liverpool upon his return.
He added: “We were so close to success last season and it was a bitter pill to take not winning the league, but that’s just a taster of what the fans will get – but hopefully this time we’ll have the trophies to show for it.
“Everyone is very obsessive in terms of wanting success and being winners. That’s what we are – that’s the Liverpool way.”
