The clash between rival cults in the
Fadeyi and Mushin areas of Lagos entered day four as another youth was
shot dead on Railway Line on Tuesday morning.
The previous night, a 32-year-old man,
identified only as Tunde, was beheaded by another set of cultists, who
came in their numbers, and also took away his head.
A source said, “The cultists were many.
They got reinforcement from the Somolu, Bariga and Ebute Meta areas and
overwhelmed everybody. They entered our area and brought Tunde out.
“They shot him and then beheaded him before taking his head away.”
The Tuesday killing is the third death in four days
Policemen from the Alakara Police Station
were said to have taken the corpses to their station from where they
were taken to a mortuary.
Reports had it that the cult fight was between two factions- Toba boys and Toheeb’s gang.
Both gangs were also said to be foot soldiers of the All progressives Congress and the Peoples Democratic Party.
Our correspondent had reported that the
latest clash started after some of the hoodlums tore campaign posters
belonging to the APC in a demonstration.
The rival group was said to have brought policemen to make arrests which escalated the crisis.
The Police Public Relations Officer, who
confirmed the last death, told our correspondent the police were
handling the situation.
He said, “The Alakara Police Station
evacuated the corpse and it has been taken to the Yaba General Hospital
mortuary. Investigations are on and the perpetrators will be brought to
book.”
On
Tuesdaya lottery agent, Sheriff Alasia, was shot dead during a
brutal cult clash at the Fadeyi end of Ikorodu Road.
Meanwhile, residents have cried out to
the state government to intervene in the crisis as the killings have
continued despite the presence of a large number of policemen in the
area.
