Kenyan afro-pop band, Sauti Sol has edged Nigerian pop princess, Tiwa Savage out of the MTV EMA Best
African Act wild card nominations section. Organisers of the premium
awards ceremony threw the last slot in the Best African Act category
open for votes and after the collation of all votes, Sauti Sol from Kenya emerged winners, thus joining Davido, Goldfish, Diamond and Toofan in the hotly contested category for African music stars. Sauti Sol is a popular band formed in Nairobi by vocalists Bien-Aimé Baraza, Willis Chimano
and Delvin Mudigi in 2005 and the group has remained a popular unit
with their output loved in borders beyond Nairobi and other parts of
Kenya.
The 2014 MTV EMA, world’s annual music awards celebrates the year’s
hottest artists from around the globe, at the moment Katy Perry leads
the race with nominations in seven categories, while Ariana Grande
follows closely with nods in six categories. Pharrell Williams and 5
Seconds of summer each have five nominations. One Direction, Nicki
Minaj, Iggy Azalea, Eminem, Sam Smith and Kiesza all received four MTV
EMA nominations each. The 2014 MTV EMA will take place at The Hydro in
Glasgow on Sunday November 9, 2014.
