Tragedy struck at the Sango Ota area of Ogun
State over the weekend when a retired Assistant Superintendent of
Police (ASP), Sunday Isokpehi shot dead his wife and himself.According
to Daily Trust report, the former ASP had attended a wedding ceremony of
a friend’s son with his family,When they got
back home, the 60-year-old
man accused his wife, Gladys of being drunk at ceremony which according
to him was disgraceful.
The wife however denied being drunk at the ceremony,She said though
she drank, she did not misbehave in any way. This resulted in a serious
fracas which degenerated into a fight.
The retired ACP who was
infuriated reportedly went for his pump action rifle and then fired
shots at his wife after which he shot himself.
It was gathered at
the Olusegun Obasanjo station in Sango Ota that the man and his wife had
frequent domestic fights and the police was tired of settling them.
The police spokesman, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said investigation into the case was in progress.
He
said: “We are still investigating the immediate and remote causes of
the tragic incident. We will find out whether the man was depressed or
was under any influence, because a normal human being will not open fire
on his wife and then kill himself. We will investigate how he got the
double-barrelled gun he used to commit the dastardly act.”
He
however said contrary to reports that late Isokpehi was a retired
Assistant Commissioner of Police, the officer retired as Assistant
Superintendent of Police and he did not kill his son, Daily Sun reports.
He
said Isokpehi retired in March from the Special Anti-Robbery Squad
unit, Lagos Police Command, and was living in Eledi area in Ado Odo/Ota
Local Government.
